Southold Helicopter Commitee to Host Community Forum

Residents are encouraged to attend the meeting to discuss helicopter and other noisy aircrafts.

The Southold Helicopter Committee will be hosting a community forum regarding helicopters and noisy aircrafts next month.

The meeting will take place on Thursday, August 13 starting at 6:30 p.m. at the Peconic Recreation Center on 970 Peconic Lane.

The committee encourages residents to attend the forum, which will provide an overview of developments since last year and invite speakers including elected officials from across the East End.

Recently, the federal court affirmed the Town of East Hampton’s legal right to adopt four local laws putting restrictions to address the problem of excessive airport noise at East Hampton Airport, town officials said.

The court upheld two local laws instituting year-round curfews: one, a mandatory nighttime curfew, from 11 p.m. to 7 a.m., and the other, an extended curfew on noisy aircraft, from 8 p.m. to 9 a.m.

The court also enjoined third law imposing a one-trip-a-week restriction. A fourth law was not challenged.
