Wainscott Man Busted for Driving Drunk: Police

The man was caught crossing over the fog line onto the shoulder, police said.

WAINSCOTT, NY — A Wainscott man was cuffed after he was caught driving drunk in East Hampton, police said.

According to East Hampton Town Police, Jacob C. Reams, 27, was arrested on Dec. 18 at 7:25 p.m. on Montauk Highway near East Gate Road after driving a white 2006 Chevrolet west and failing to maintain his lane of travel by crossing over the white fog line into the shoulder of the roadway a "couple of times."

Upon contact, he was found to have the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage on his breath, bloodshot, glassy eyes, and slurred speech; he was unsteady on his feet and failed all standardized field sobriety tests administered, police said.

He was charged with driving while intoxicated, first offense, a misdemeanor, operating a motor vehicle with .08 of 1 percent alcohol or more in blood, first offense, a misdemeanor, and unlawful possession of marijuana, a violation, police said.

Cash bail was set at $500, police said.
