Police: Woman Stole Political Signs From East Hampton Home

The incident occurred the day before Election Day.

An East Hampton woman was charged with petty larceny after stealing political signs the day before Election Day, which was held last Tuesday, police said.

Elizabeth Ruth, 73, turned herself into East Hampton Town Police on Thursday evening after stealing two signs from a home on Waterhole Road on Monday at about 8:25 a.m., according to police.

Ruth, who previously served as a Democratic Party election poll watcher, was seen on camera taking the signs, one which appeared to support Margaret Turner, a Republican candidate running for Town Board, and another sign advertising the StopTheRentalRegistry.com website, according to 27east.
