Cops: Student Brought Starter Pistol to East Meadow High School Wednesday
Unidentified 18-year-old was charged after bringing unloaded starter pistol to school, cops said.

An East Meadow High School student is under arrest for bringing a starter pistol to school Wednesday, confirmed Nassau County Police.
Cops said the 18-year-old male, whose identity has not yet been released, was found with the starter pistol Wednesday morning.
The pistol, normally used to shoot blanks at the start of races, was recovered during a backpack search prompted by a report of a smell of marijuana at 11:16 a.m., police confirmed.

“At no time were any students or staff exposed to any danger related to this matter,” said Superintendent Louis DeAngelo in a statement Wednesday afternoon.
The student and the weapon were removed from the school as law enforcement investigated the incident, said DeAngelo.

“Law enforcement authorities are still determining whether or not the weapon, which was not loaded, is authentic,” he said.
