East Meadow Man Robs Taxi Driver, Drives Away in Cab: Police
The man was later arrested at his home.

EAST MEADOW, NY - An East Meadow man was arrested after robbing a taxi driver and taking his taxi in East Meadow on Saturday morning, according to Nassau County Police.
The 52-year-old male driver from All Island Taxi was dispatched to pick up a fare at 1538 Newbridge Road in North Bellmore at about 12:45 a.m.
A man entered the cab and asked to be taken to Bernard Street and Powers Avenue in East Meadow, police said.

Once they arrived, the man stated he had a gun and demanded money, police said.
The victim immediately exited the cab and ran away, police said.

The man then climbed into the drivers’ seat and drove off with the taxi, police said.
After an investigation by First Precinct Officers and First Squad detectives, 28-year-old Christopher Ackermann, was placed under arrest at his home at about 5:25 a.m., according to police.
The taxi was not recovered.
Ackermann is being charged with first degree robbery and fourth degree grand larceny, police said.
He was arraigned on Saturday.
