East Meadow Students Heading To National History Bee

EAST MEADOW, NY - From the East Meadow School District: The East Meadow School District is pleased to announce that Nicholas Espinosa and James Griesing, eighth-grade students from W.T. Clarke Middle School, have qualified to compete in the National History Bee, to be held in Atlanta, Georgia, on June 1-2. The annual competition is designed to motivate and reward students for studying history.

Social Studies Chairperson Lisa Scully explained that the road to the national competition started with a schoolwide class test. Winners of that test went on to take an online exam to qualify for the regional competition, which was held in Yonkers on April 16. After attending the regional competition, Nicholas and James qualified for the national contest.

Both students said they have techniques for excelling in history. James, whose favorite historical period is World War I, said, “If you pay attention in social studies class, you can learn a lot of the information.”

Nicholas added that his success stems from his enjoyment in visiting museums and watching documentaries. His favorite historical period, he revealed, is World War II.

The district congratulates both students on this academic accomplishment and wished them success in the national competition.
