EMFD Takes Delivery on Two New Ambulances
State funding provided by Senator Kevin Thomas helps ease taxpayer burden

The East Meadow Fire Department recently took delivery of two new ambulances that will replace similar vehicles that served the community for over 15 years. The fleet of ambulances is among the most heavily used apparatus in the district, according to East Meadow Fire District Commissioner William Neill, Vice Chairman of the Board of Fire Commissioners, who noted that requests for emergency medical services have increased in the community over the past few years. Commissioner Neill also stated that recent development of high-density housing units throughout East Meadow over the few years that are aimed at older adults have contributed, in part, to the increased demand for ambulances from the East Meadow Fire Department’s emergency medical service companies.
Funding for the new ambulances outfitted with advanced life-saving support technology and the latest emergency medical equipment was made possible thanks to a $300,000 grant from New York State Senator Kevin Thomas through the State and Municipalities funding program and administered by the Dormitory Authority of the State of New York (DASNY).
“We thank Senator Thomas for his efforts in providing the funds to replace East Meadow’s aging ambulances, which also provides welcome relief to the district’s taxpayers,” said Commissioner John J. Priest, Chairman of the Board of Fire Commissioners. “The two new ambulances will allow the East Meadow Fire Department to continue to provide the highest degree of emergency medical response to the community.”

The new ambulances will be located at fire headquarters on East Meadow Avenue at Front Street and at Station 4 off Carman Avenue in the northern portion of the district. They will be placed in service shortly upon EMFD volunteers becoming trained in the vehicle’s operations and the use of the onboard state-of-the-art emergency medical equipment.
