Commemorate the 150th anniversary of the beginning of the Civil War at Old Bethpage Restoration Village on Apr. 2 and Apr. 3 with the annual "School for the Soldier" event, shown by Company “E” of the 14th Brooklyn Regiment- New York State Militia.

The period soldiers will come dressed in full uniform and will show everyone the formations that the regiment used in training during 1861. They will finish the event with a skirmish drill on Sunday afternoon.

According to a press release from Nassau County, "The 'Brooklyn Chasseurs,' as they were also known, served in such major campaigns as the First and Second Bull Run, Antietam, Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville, Gettysburg, the Wilderness campaign, and Spotsylvania. After the First Bull Run, where the regiment suffered 142 casualties, Confederate Gen. Stonewall Jackson nicknamed them the 'Red Legged Devils.'"
