Man Scams 86-Year-Old East Meadow Man Out of $7,500: Police

The man allegedly called the victim pretending to be his grandson back in October, police say.

EAST MEADOW, NY - A Bronx man was arrested last Wednesday for stealing over $7,500 from an 86-year-old East Meadow man through a phone scam in October, according to Nassau County Police.

The man received a telephone call at his Benito Street home from a man claiming to be his grandson on Oct. 20, police said.

The caller said that he had been arrested and needed $7,500 to be released, according to police.

The caller gave the victim an account number located at the Bank of America to deposit the money, police said.

The man complied, but later found out that his grandson was never arrested or made such a call.

An investigation by detectives led to the arrest of 23-year-old Jeremy E. McFadden on Wednesday, Feb. 10, police said.

McFadden is charged with third degree grand larceny and was arraigned last Thursday in Hempstead.
