Nassau Man Attacked Elderly Man, Fracturing His Skull: Police
Police say the elderly man also suffered brain damage from his attack. The attacker tried to assault officers during the arrest, police say.

A Hempstead man was arrested on Thursday after police say he assaulted and robbed an elderly man, and then tried to flee from officers.
According to police, patrol officers responded to a call at 511 Jerusalem Ave. in Uniondale around 10:40 a.m. When they arrived, a witness told the officers that an elderly man with a can was hit in the face and knocked to the floor by a man. While the 70-year-old man was on the ground, the other man took cash from the man's pocket and stole his cane.
The witness tried to intervene to help the man, but the attacker ran at him with the can. The witness stepped back and called police.

Police say the 70-year-old man suffered a skull fracture and brain trauma. He was taken by ambulance to a hospital for treatment.
Police investigated and say they located the attacker, who refused to listen to their commands. Police say the attacker, Timmell Pearson, 30, of Teresa Place, Hempstead, attempted to hit one of the officers with the cane. Police subdued Pearson and placed him under arrest.

Pearson is charged with first-degree robbery, first-degree assault, second-degree menacing and third-degree criminal possession of a weapon. He will be arraigned in First District Court in Hempstead when medically practical.
