You’re new to medieval reenacting and you’re about to attend your first event, complete with a feast. Here’s some advice on what kind of feast gear (tableware) you should bring.
Most SCA events have a day board (think lunch) in addition to the feast. A soup is usually included so a bowl and spoon is a must. So is a plate for other items that are offered like hard boiled eggs, bread and butter.
Bring at least two cups. You might have access to alcoholic drinks in two ways, either the people sitting with you brought their own to share or a brewer has donated some of his product. You’ll want an empty cup to sample the brewer’s efforts, or you’ll want one cup for water and the other for alcohol. Also bring two decent size plates, one for the day board, one for dinner. You might not have the ability to wash the plate you used for lunch.

Don’t forget a knife, fork and spoon. A linen napkin is a good investment.
For your first feast I wouldn’t worry about being authentic. Take a look around at what others have brought to the table. You’ll see wooden plates, leather mugs, tankards, goblets, fancy salt and pepper holders, knives with handles made out of different materials. Make note of what you like. Make dinner conversation by asking your dinner companions where they got that plate or the best way to clean that pewter goblet?

As you get to know your persona more you’ll be able to make the persona more authentic by using feast ware he or she would have used based upon time frame and social standing.
There are many people at a feast who can loan a piece or two of feast gear to the newcomer, but with a little bit of planning you don’t have to rely on the kindness of others.
