Family Of Injured Farmingdale Student Plans To Sue District For $12M
The 14-year-old daughter of Kimberley and Corey Ellis suffered broken ribs and disfigurement from last month's crash, reports say.

FARMINGDALE, NY — The parents of one of the Farmingdale students who was injured in the bus crash last month plan to file a lawsuit against the school district.
Kimberley and Corey Ellis filed a notice of claim against the Farmingdale School District, the New York Post reported.
The Ellises accused the district of hiring a bus company even though it had a history of safety violations.

"The Farmingdale School District is aware of legal action being taken related to the devastating tragedy that our community experienced in September," the district said in a statement.
Two teachers were killed in the crash last month in Orange County as they were en route to a Pennsylvania band camp. Five students were critically hurt as the bus tumbled down an embankment on the highway. They are expected to recover.

The Ellis' 14-year-old daughter was among the injured.
They are seeking $10 million to compensate for her broken ribs, lung damage, head wounds and disfigurement. They also seek $2 million in damages for the cost of her medical and psychological care, the Post reported.
Due to the ongoing litigation, "under the advice of the district's legal counsel, we cannot comment on the particulars of the lawsuit," the district added.
The district said its focus will be "doing whatever we can to bring our community together and provide the resources that will help us all cope with the emotions and trauma associated with this tragedy."
