Basement Fire Displaces 5 In Valley Stream, Fire Marshal Says

A fire broke out in the basement of a Valley Stream home Monday, drawing the response of 50 firefighters, officials say.

VALLEY STREAM, NY — Five people are out of their home Monday after a fire broke out in the basement of a two-story house in Valley Stream, fire officials said.

The Nassau County Fire Marshal said the fire was called in at 2:23 p.m., with the Valley Stream Fire Department responding and receiving assistance from Cedarhurst, Elmont, Lawrence, Lynbrook and Malverne Fire Departments. In total, fire officials said there were about 50 firefighters on the scene who were able to bring the blaze under control in 15 minutes.

The five residents of the West Lincoln Avenue house were displaced with no injuries reported to them or the firefighters, fire officials said.

The fire marshal’s office said the Red Cross was contacted to assist the displaced people, while the fire marshal and NCPD arson/bomb squad began an investigation into the fire’s cause. The local building department, officials said, was also notified.
