Burglar Arrested After Violent Struggle With Off-Duty Cop: NCPD
Police say the man was also responsible for burglarizing other businesses in the county.

WOODMERE, NY — A Queens man was arrested early Wednesday morning after police say he was caught in the middle of a burglary by an off-duty police officer.
According to police, an off-duty Nassau County police officer was driving home from work at 5:11 a.m. when he saw a burglary in progress at S&S Woodmere Inc. grocery store, located at 1064 Broadway in Woodmere. The officer, who was still in uniform, got out of his car and approached the store.
Police say the burglar — Anthony Livieri, 49, of Atlantic Avenue — left the store through a broken front window and tried to flee. After a violent struggle, the officer was able to place him under arrest, police say. Both Livieri and the officer were injured, and were both taken to a hospital for treatment.
