Customs: Man Smuggled Cocaine in Sneakers at JFK
Man snuck $30,000 worth of drugs into the country, CBP said.
A man was caught trying to smuggle cocaine in several pairs of sneakers at John F. Kennedy Airport on April 7, U.S. Customs and Border Protection announced Wednesday.
Thenga Adams arrived at JFK on a flight from Guyana and presented himself for inspection, officials said.
Customs said officers discovered running shoes inside his luggage that were packed with cocaine. Adams had smuggled about 2 pounds of cocaine with a street value of $30,000, CBP officials said.

Adams was charged with importing a controlled substance and was turned over to Homeland Security, officials said.
