Drunken Driver Crashes Into Building, Injures 2: Nassau Police

Police say he was driving drunk when he crashed into the building and injured two passengers in his car.

WOODMERE, NY — An Inwood man was arrested early Tuesday after police say he crashed his car into a building while driving drunk and injured his two passengers.

According to police, officers responded to a call for a car crash on the corner of Broadway and Neptune Avenue in Woodmere at 1:24 a.m. today. When they arrived, they saw a blue 2016 Toyota had crashed into a building at 945 Broadway. Police say the driver, Deywin Gonzalez Sovalbarro, 20, of Inwood, was sitting on the curb. Police say he had glassy and bloodshot eyes, slurred speech and a strong odor of alcohol on his breath. He was placed under arrest without incident and taken to a hospital for treatment and evaluation.

Two 21-year-old men who were passengers in the car were also taken to a hospital for injuries they sustained during the crash, police said.

Sovalbarro was charged with driving while intoxicated. He received an appearance ticket and is due back in First District Court in Hempstead on July 15.
