Five Towns Student Named Intel Semifinalist
High school student among only 300 nationwide to receive honor.

A Stella K. Abraham High School for Girls student was among 43 Long Island high school seniors named semifinalists in the prestigious Intel Science Talent Search.
Hewlett Bay Park’s Ilana Radinsky, 17, got the news on Wednesday that she was in an elite pool of 300 students nationwide to be selected as semifinalists.

From this pool, 40 finalists are then invited to Washington, D.C,. in March to participate in final judging, display their work to the public, meet with notable scientists, and compete for three top awards of $150,000 each.

Radinsky’s research project is entitled “Effects of Carbon Chain Length in Thiol-Functionalized Gold Nanoparticles Coating a Nafion® Membrane on PEM Fuel Cell Efficiency.”
