Madeline Singas Sworn in as Acting Nassau DA
Singas is the second woman and first Greek-American to hold the office previously held by Kathleen Rice.

Nassau County swore in a new district attorney as Kathleen Rice departs for Washington.
Chief Assistant District Attorney Madeline Singas was sworn in Tuesday and became the Acting Nassau County District Attorney.
“While I have very big shoes to fill following DA Kathleen Rice’s nine years as District Attorney, I am honored and privileged to represent this office and the 1.3 million residents of Nassau as I continue our office’s commitment to integrity and the fairest administration of justice,” said Singas in a statement.

Singas spent two decades prosecuting violent criminals and was appointed chief of the newly-created Special Victims Bureau in 2006. She has served as Chief Assistant DA since 2011 and supervised 30,000 criminal cases a year. During her tenure, Singas was instrumental in securing SAT reform, working with SAFE Center to help victims of domestic and sexual abuse, and overseeing convictions of numerous violent crimes.
“As DA Rice’s Chief Assistant for the last four years and as a lifelong prosecutor before that, I will make sure that there’s a smooth transition at the District Attorney’s Office,” said Singas.
