Hewlett High School Student Named Science Talent Search Semi-Finalist
He is competing for a top prize of $250,000.

A student from Hewlett High School has been named a semi-finalist in the Regeneron 2017 Science Talent Search.
Matthew Raymond Perkins, 17, is among just 300 semi-finalists, or Scholars, nationwide. He is now in the running to be named as one of 40 finalists that will head to Washington, D.C. in March to compete for the top prize of $250,000.
Perkins' project was titled "Alpha and Beta Adrenergic Agonists Increase Hindrance to Diffusion of 3-kDa Dextran in Mouse Visual Cortex Extracellular Space."

The Regeneron Science Talent Search (formerly run by Intel) is one of the most prestigious science competitions for high school students in the country. More than 1,700 applicants submitted their projects this year.
The finalists will be announced on Jan. 24.
