Spring style guide: Styles of the '70s are making a comeback, according to Lipton. Denim bellbottoms, vintage looking tops with embellishment, military jackets and leather vests and the Woodstock look are among the popular spring trends, she said. This season, coral, orange, olive green and nudes are very popular.
Tops are perhaps the biggest fashion statement this season, Lipton said. The boutique's selection of tops is mixed to accommodate its varied clientele. Styles include oversized to vintage to fitted tops for each generation.
The local scene: While most of her clients are from the Five Towns, David and her staff have been dressing women across the five boroughs for over 30 years.
Shoppers like Fran from Hewlett and Jamie of Rockville Center have been shopping at Sheryl David for over ten years.
“This store is so special because they are very personal, they help you put yourself together when you’re not sure how to,” Jamie told Patch.
Fran, a customer that says her problem is finding clothes that fit properly, buys all of her clothes from the boutique. “They take care off is me, they cater to me,” she said.
The ladies said they aim to provide the best customer care possible and strive to create a friendly and casual shopping environment that is easy and comfortable for their customers.
“There is no pressure to buy. We have lost customers because we tell people it doesn’t look good," David said. "We’re not going to let them walk about not looking good. We are honest enough to lose a sale."
The boutique is constantly finding new vendors and restocking the store with the latest trends, the women said. Its onsite dressmaker can customize an outfit to properly fit any body type and the women try to keep the store stocked with items that are one of a kind, because, according to Navarro, “no one wants to look like someone else.”
Interesting facts: After years of working in Manhattan as a manufacturer’s rep, David decided to start her own company and joined forces with her sister-in-law, who coincidently is also named Sheryl David (she's now a silent partner), to open the boutique.
The boutique offers personal shopping for clients who are looking to find a unique outfit for special occasions. It only carries one size of each item and tries very hard to not carry merchandise that can be found in other stores in the area.
Once a year, David, Lipton and Navarro literally takes the entire store down to Florida for their “snow birds” (customers who travel to Florida for the winter) and dresses these selected customers with the latest styles for the season.
