Homeless Man Robbed Nassau Bank: Police

Police say he was caught a short time after robbing the bank.

A homeless man was arrested on Wednesday after police say he robbed a bank in Cedarhurst.

According to police, Michael Shawky-Mikhail, 33, entered the Wells Fargo bank at 464 Central Ave. just before noon. He handed the teller a note demanding money, police said, and then fled the bank on foot after being given an undisclosed amount of cash.

A description of Shawky-Mikhail was broadcast, and police say officers located him a short time later on Rockaway Turnpike. He was placed under arrest without incident.

Shawky-Mikhail is charged with third-degree robbery. He is scheduled to be arraigned on Thursday in First District Court in Hempstead.
