Man Hit, Killed By SUV While Crossing LI Road

Police say the man suffered severe injuries and died shortly later at the hospital.

UPDATE: Police have identified the man who was killed as Stewart Hecht, 73, of Woodmere.

ORIGINAL STORY: A 73-year-old man was hit by a car and killed as he was crossing a road in Woodmere this morning.

According to Nassau County police, the man was crossing Peninsula Boulevard near Edward Avenue when he was hit by a 2019 Infinity SUV being driven by a 36-year-old woman at 6:55 a.m.

The man suffered severe injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital. He was pronounced dead by doctors at 7:41 a.m.

The driver of the SUV remained at the scene. Police say the investigation is ongoing.
