More Than $25K Stolen After Someone Impersonates Govt. Official: Cops

The man fled in Valley Stream after telling the victim to withdraw cash from the bank due to identity theft, police said.

VALLEY STREAM, NY — A woman, who had more than $20,000 stolen from her vehicle, was part of a scheme.

The 24-year-old victim was contacted by an unknown male, claiming to be a government official. The woman was advised that she was an identity theft victim and the man requested personal information, authorities said.

The woman provided the information and was instructed to withdraw all of her money from the bank. They agreed to meet at the Walmart parking lot near the Green Acres Mall in Valley Stream on Monday afternoon, police said.

At the time, the man took $26,000 from her vehicle and fled, detectives said.
