Homes Damaged After Gas Explosion In Meadowmere Park
One house was leveled and another two burned after the explosion on Sunday. Two firefighters and a homeowner were injured.
LAWRENCE, NY — A gas explosion in a home in Meadowmere Park early Sunday started a massive fire that damaged two other houses and drew 100 firefighters. Two firefighters and the homeowner were injured.
According to police, a gas explosion at 5:35 a.m. at 3 South St. destroyed the home and started a massive fire. Fire spread to the adjacent homes at 1 and 5 South St. as well. The Meadowmere Park Fire Department and multiple other fire departments responded.
Two Valley Stream firefighters were injured when part of a chimney fell on them, causing cuts and bruises to their shoulders. One of them was airlifted to a hospital and another was taken by Long Beach Fire Department ambulance. The 63-year-old man who lived at 3 South St. suffered severe burns and was also airlifted to a hospital. All three people were listed in stable condition.

The Nassau County Police Department and the Nassau County Fire Marshal are investigating.
