Nassau Man Charged With String Of Burglaries: Police

Police say the month-long spree of burglaries all occurred near the man's home town.

A Valley Stream man was arrested on Friday and charged with multiple burglaries that occurred across the South Shore since September.

According to police, the Major Case Bureau and the Burglary Pattern Team were investigating a series of burglaries in Valley Stream and nearby areas. After reviewing video and DNA evidence, police arrested Donald Smith, 53, of Emerson Place. Police say that Smith was responsible for the following burglaries:

  • Sept. 14: Restaurante Y Pupuseria Eugeni, 606 Woodfield Road, Lakeview at 5 a.m. Cash box and cash stolen.
  • Sept. 22: China King Restaurant, 248 N. Central Avenue, Valley Stream at 6:05 a.m. Cash register and cash stolen.
  • Oct. 16: B & K Beverages, 55 E. Merrick Road, Valley Stream at 12:55 a.m. Cash register and cash stolen.
  • Oct. 19: Meat & Grocery Market, 20A Meacham Avenue, Elmont at 2:50 a.m. Cash register, cash, credit card reader and checks stolen.

In addition, police say Smith also stole a purse from the parking lot of 7-Eleven, located on 190 North Central AVe. in Valley Stream at 7:10 a.m. on Oct. 2. The purse contained cash, credit cards and electronic devices.

Smith was located on Greenwich Street in Hempstead on Friday, where he was placed under arrest. He is charged with four counts of third-degree burglary and fourth-degree grand larceny. He was arraigned in First District Court in Hempstead on Saturday.
