Nassau Police, Firefighters Rescue Man From Water
Police officers leaped into the water to help the man while water rescue crews from nearby fire departments converged on the scene.

Nassau Police officers and firefighters worked together to rescue a man who fell into the water of Jamaica Bay late Wednesday night.
The Inwood Fire Department reported that the call came in at 10:38 p.m. for a man in the water of the bay near Costco on Rockaway Turnpike. Nassau Police officers who responded to the scene jumped into the water to help the man.
Water rescue crews from the Meadowmere Park, Lawrence-Cedarhurst and Inwood fire departments all arrived on the scene. The man had to be lifted up an 8-foot-high sea wall by rescuers using a hauling system.

The man was taken to a nearby hospital for evaluation and treatment. Some of the police officers who jumped in to rescue him were also treated for minor injuries.
