Qcumbers’ Move to Cedarhurst Leaves Woodmere Store Vacant
Owner of salad café finds greener pastures at new location.
After six years in Woodmere, Faige Light moved her to Cedarhurst, leaving the old location empty for just over a year.
“I’m not sure why they changed locations,” said Pat Picone, the listing agent at Ernest Realty in Woodmere. “They always seemed to do good business here.”
But according to Light, although business at her Woodmere store was steady, after a while she set her sights on Central Avenue in Cedarhurst, where she moved in March of 2011.

“Business is better here,” Light said. “It's bigger and there's more foot traffic than in Woodmere. We moved in at almost the same time as the library next door, which is also good for business."
Dot Cozza, a 13-year employee of , which is up the block from the vacancy, said she understands why Qcumbers moved to Cedarhurst. However, some store owners are happy to stay put.

“There’s probably more business over there,” she said. “Sometimes it’s pretty deserted over here [in Woodmere]. But the owners of this place would never consider that move. All our people are here — our good customers.”
The vacancy, located at 1059 Broadway, is about 1,100 square feet. The building owner has lowered the price considerably since it first went on the market, according to Picone. At this point, he is looking for about $2,000 to $2,500 a month for rent.
A couple of the store’s key features can be found out back, including a large free parking lot, a convenient rear entrance and a nice brick patio where the former tenant set up an outdoor dining area.
Light said that prior to her café, the store was home to Gotta Getta Yogurt, which was there for many years.
Meanwhile, Picone said that several people have been inquiring about the vacancy.
“I have a couple of people interested in the place,” she said. “I see a few vacancies were recently filled in Hewlett. I think things may be picking up a little around here, which is encouraging.”
