Free Queens Symphony Orchestra Concerts - May 8th and 10th! 2013 Season Begins!

Free admission is being offered on a first-come, first-served basis

The Queens
Symphony Orchestra (QSO) continues its long tradition of presenting exciting
eclectic work in Queens by presenting its first offering of the 2013 Season. On May 8th at LeFrak Concert Hall at Queens College,
QSO will present Concerto in F by
George Gershwin, (the composer’s follow up after Rhapsody in Blue) featuring one of QSO’s 2012 Young Soloist
Competition winners, pianist, Reed Tetzloff. This will be followed by one of
Tchaikovsky’s most popular works, Symphony
No. 5
. This symphony shows Tchaikovsky at his height of emotional
expression with music that digs deep into symphonic sound to express the
torment, defeat and victory of humanity itself.

On May 10th at Flushing Town Hall, QSO will be pairing
Tchaikovsky’s Fifth Symphony with Manuel de Falla’s El Amo Brujo. De Falla is considered one of Spain’s most important
composers, and this piece takes a fiery look at love, flamenco style, and will
feature Melisa Bonetti as the vocal soloist. Bonetti last appeared with QSO in 2011 in
the semi-staged version of Verdi's opera, “Rigoletto” and brought the house
down with her sensuous, deep mezzo voice.

 Music
Director Constantine Kitsopoulos, known as a conductor whose musical
experiences comfortably span the worlds of symphony, opera, and Broadway (most
recently as Music Director of “Porgy and Bess”) will lead the QSO.
