Brooklyn Nets' Dance Team Holding Open Auditions for Next Season's Brooklynettes

Bare midriffs required.

FORT GREENE, BROOKLYN — Aspiring pom pom-shakers are in luck — the Brooklyn Nets’ dance team is hosting open auditions next weekend.

Brooklyn’s own Brooklynettes will host auditions at Long Island University’s Arnold and Marie Schwartz Center at 1 University Plaza starting at 10 a.m., organizers announced.

Any woman 18-years-old or older can audition, but “extensive training” in hip hop, jazz and tumbling are highly recommended, according to the audition announcement.

Aspiring dancers are required to wear an outfit that would make most high school principals cringe — exposed midriffs and legs are a must, as are sneakers and “glamorous” hair and make-up.

Women who survive Saturday’s auditions will be asked to callbacks on Sunday, June 11.

Future Brooklynettes will perform alongside the Brooklyn Nets at the Barclays Center — but dancers should not expect to be rewarded on a similar scale as players.

The New York Post reported in 2014 that Brooklyn Nets cheerleaders made less than $200 a game and did not earn health insurance, while the lowest paid NBA basketball players earned more than $500,000 a game.

This salary gap cannot be explained away by quality of performance — the Brooklyn went down in a 20-62 season, which is the worst record in the NBA and the team’s third consecutive season below .500, Associated Press reported.

This may be why the Brooklyn Nets are one of the 10 cheapest basketball teams to watch live in the entire league.
