How To Become A Visiting Artist At The Brooklyn Navy Yard
The Navy Yard has put out a last call to apply to its visiting artist program, a nine-month opportunity to create works inspired by the yard

FORT GREENE, BROOKLYN — The Brooklyn Navy Yard has put out a last call for submissions to its visiting artist program, an opportunity for four artists to get special access to its facilities and archives to create works inspired by the historic shipyard.
The deadline for the nine-month program, which starts in April, is Tuesday, March 19. The four artists chosen will get their chance to access the Navy Yard's archives at the Brooklyn Historical Society and to create work in the medium of their choosing inspired by the history and mission of the yard.
The program was created to fill a "tremendous public interest" from artists inspired by the Yard back in 2013, the corporation said.

“We’re proud that the Navy Yard is home to a rich creative culture and we want to offer local artists the opportunity to experience and draw from this as well,” said David Ehrenberg, President and CEO of the Brooklyn Navy Yard Development Corporation. "The Visiting Artists Program provides unparalleled access to artists interested in making the Navy Yard their muse and we are always thrilled by the work they create.”
The selected artists will be invited to several events and programs at the Yard and will put together a culminating event at the end of the program.

Events will range from workshops on business planning, to invitations, to happy hours and exhibition openings.
Artists will start the program with an orientation about the history of the yard and can then take a complimentary tour of the facility led by Turnstile Tours during their first month.
Artists selected for the program must demonstrate how the Yard inspires, informs, and influences their work and also must be New York City residents, the Yard said. Special preference will be given to artists who have permanent residence or studio space in communities in central Brooklyn.
