Michelle Obama Gets "Rock Star Reception" At Barclays Center

The former First Lady "got comfortable" with candid stories about marriage and life in the White House for the sold-out crowd.

FORT GREENE, BROOKLYN -- Michelle Obama clearly felt at home in front of a sold-out crowd at the Barclays Center this weekend. The former First Lady shared candid stories about her life and time in the White House on Saturday, even letting a swear slip when talking about the difficulties of marriage, reports Vanity Fair.

"Marriage still ain't equal y'all," Obama told the crowd of 19,000 people. "I tell women that whole ‘you can have it all’—mmm, nope, not at the same time, that’s a lie. It’s not always enough to lean in because that s--t doesn’t work.”

The crowd burst into laughter and applause, Vanity Fair reported, before Obama stopped herself and apologized to the children in the crowd.

“I thought we were at home, y’all.," she said. "I was gettin’ real comfortable up in here. Alright, I’m back now. Sometimes that stuff doesn’t work.”

The packed show was part of the former First Lady's 10-city book tour to speak about her new memoir "Becoming." Obama made other stops while in the city, too, including a book signing at the Union Square Barnes & Noble and a surprise visit to the Lower East Side Girls Club.

The Barclays Center appearance was advertised as "An Intimate Conversation with Michelle Obama," but had energy levels more akin to a rock concert, CNBC reported. Tickets for the sold-out show were reportedly being offered online for up to $3,700 the day before the event.

Poet Elizabeth Alexander joined Obama on stage during the show and The Roots' Ahmir "Questlove" Thompson DJ-ed the event. Obama touched on the passing of former President George H.W. Bush, who died on Friday, and discussed everything from her upbringing in Chicago to touching moments during her time in the White House.
