• Man pleads guilty after coverup attempt in fatal Freeport hit-and-run (news12.com) — A Babylon man has pleaded guilty in the hit-and-run that killed a 66-year-old pedestrian at East Merrick Road and South Main Street in Freeport, bringing some closure after months of investigation. Prosecutors say he fled out of state, removed identifying stickers from his car, and was later arrested and charged; he's due for sentencing in December and faces up to several years in prison.
