#63: The Andy Foundation and the High Top Shop

"By Kids- For Kids."

The Andy Foundation is a well-known charity in town since 2004, formed to honor young Andrew Palmeri who passed away after a car accident. He was the son of trustee Jill Palmeri.

Its motto is “By Kids- For Kids” and children benefit from their tireless efforts. Student and adult volunteers have helped the Andy Foundation fund many Long Island charities and schools such as the De LaSalle School, which is a Catholic charter school for boys in Freeport, the Martin Burell School for Children, Safe Horizons, the Winthrop Cancer Center and other charities.

The Andy Foundation supports the groups with profits from the High Top Shop, its store on Franklin Avenue that opened 10 months ago. Inside is a collector’s dream with gently-used antiques, collectibles, furniture, decorative accessories, glassware, china and more. Other funding comes from its sale of T-shirts, sweatshirts, baseball caps and additional items, as well as special events.

“The High Top Shop is special because of the dedication of its volunteers, and the generosity of our donors, both of whom keep the store going," Palmeri said. "The customers who support us give us great feedback ... and occasionally give us information on a donation we are stumped on. It's truly a group effort … We are all happy with the store so far and hope it continues to grow so we can reach out and help more kids in need.”

Donations are gratefully accepted. The items in the photos are currently for sale.
