Construction Worker Dies After Becoming Submerged During Water Main Break: PD (patch.com) — Residents in East Garden City are learning more about a tragic construction accident near Ring Road, where a 56-year-old worker from West Babylon became submerged during a water main break. Coworkers pulled him out and first responders tried lifesaving measures before he was pronounced dead at a local hospital, and Nassau County police say the investigation is ongoing.
2. Adelphi Panther's for a Cause 5K Run/Walk - Adelphi University, Nexus Building10/18/26 (cityguideny.com) — A community 5K and fun run is coming to Adelphi University's Nexus Building in Garden City on Sunday, October 18, with kids' races starting at 9 a.m. and a 5K at 9:45 a.m. Proceeds support the Nassau Suffolk Autism Society of America, which funds free social and recreational programs for individuals with autism and their families on Long Island.
3. GCJC Religious School celebrates New Year (gcnews.com) — Families at the Garden City Jewish Center marked Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur with kid-focused services, challah baking, crafts, and storytelling. The congregation's Sunday religious school has also kicked off, blending hands-on art, Hebrew lessons, and weekly Havdalah so local students feel prepared and confident by the time their Bar or Bat Mitzvah arrives.
4. Newsday's top 10 Long Island high school boys soccer team rankings (newsday.com) — Garden City's boys soccer team lands sixth in Newsday's latest Long Island top-10 rankings as the Trojans chase a third straight state title. Despite a recent upset loss to Jericho, Garden City has posted 10 shutouts in 14 games and remains one of several Nassau programs, including South Side and Floral Park, pushing for deep postseason runs.
