BODY30: The Anti-Gym
A women's only facility offering a unique approach to weight loss.
When it comes to weight loss, Garden City resident Greg Koretz means business.
As the owner of BODY30, a women's only gym on New Hyde Park Road, Koretz, at first glance, appears like a drill sergeant to the easily intimidated. But he says his no-joke approach to weight loss "guarantees" success.
"This is all about a non-intimidating atmosphere," said Koretz, who's been a personal trainer for 25 years. "You're not a number here. We know your dog's name or if you had a fight with your husband. What we do best is care and get you into shape fast."

That philosophy could be the reason so many women keep coming back to the "anti-gym," as Koretz refers to it.
Words of motivation - We must all suffer from one of two pains...the pain of discipline or the pain of regret. The difference is discipline weighs ounces while regret weighs tons - hang from the walls and are written on a dry erase board as you enter the facility, reminding clients of their commitment. BODY30 may provide the exercise equipment but it's the clients that have to bring their game.

"We're not for everyone," Koretz admits. "There's accountability." He isn't afraid to "say it straight" because he wants to help his clients succeed. "It's doubtful you will find another trainer who isn't afraid of telling you the truth even when you don't want to hear it and will stick by you until you reach your goals," he said.
BODY30 offers 30-minute circuit training classes Monday through Saturday, 45-minute boot camps led by Koretz for a more intense workout, as well as personal training sessions throughout the week with Barbara Sorenson and Sara Verrelli. BODY30 is currently offering a three-week fitness trial for those interested.
"We are a circuit training gym that prides itself on our ability to be in touch with our members and their needs," said Sorenson, who was once a member of the gym before Koretz hired her as a full-time trainer. "At our facility you are not a key card - we know who you are! Many of our members are young moms. Children are welcome and the 30-minute format is ideal for the busy mom."
A Kidz Zone stacked with crayons and coloring books helps keep the younger ones busy while mom gets her 30-minute workout in.
For Vivian Gallo, who started the gym Nov. 1, the instructors really get her going. "It's only 30 minutes and you get a great workout. They care a lot about your success," she said after a recent circuit.
