Driver Who Struck Overpass Had 22 License Suspensions: Police

The Garden City Police Department reported the following incidents for the week ending April 2.
- On March 27, officers arrested two 37-year-old females from Uniondale at Lord & Taylor for the theft of merchandise totaling $1,240. One of the women worked as a sales associate at the store. Both were charged with grand larceny.
- Graffiti was found on a dumpster at Hemlock School on March 27.
- A vehicle reportedly left the scene after striking and damaging a vehicle stopped at a red light on Stewart Avenue on March 28. No injuries were reported.
- A vehicle, declared as a scofflaw by the Garden City Court for unpaid parking tickets, was impounded on 2nd Street on March 28.
- Garden City Detectives charged a 25-year-old man from Amityville on March 29 for larceny from a car that occurred on Spruce Street on Feb. 3. In addition, the man was charged with three additional larceny from vehicle incidents that occurred in 2018 on 1st Street, St. James Street South and 6th Street.
- Officers assisted firefighters for a report of wires down on Plaza Road on March 29. Upon investigation, the wires were determined to be utility lines.
- Officers responded to Cherry Valley Avenue on March 30 where a box truck struck the train overpass. Upon investigation, it was determined the driver of the truck, a 56-year-old man from Brooklyn, had 22 license suspensions for various violations. The man was arrested and charged with second-degree aggravated unlicensed operation and disregarding bridge clearance signs.
- A joint investigation on County Seat Drive by the Garden City Police Department and Nassau County Probation Department resulted in the arrest of a 23-year-old man from Baldwin on April 1 for driving with 19 license suspensions and revocations. He was charged with second-degree aggravated unlicensed operation and unlawful possession of marijuana.
- A patron reported his wallet was stolen while he was in the Healthtrax Fitness and Wellness Center on Franklin Avenue on April 2.
- An unknown vehicle left the scene after striking and damaging an unoccupied vehicle in Parking Field 5 on April 2.
