Driver Without License Arrested For Crash That Hurt Officer: GCPD

The Garden City Police Department reported the following incidents for the week ending Nov. 13.

  • A Cathedral Avenue resident was alerted by his security system of a man in his driveway checking door handles on Nov. 6. No loss reported at this time.
  • An officer was conducting a traffic stop investigation on Meadow Street on Nov. 6 when he discovered the driver, a 32-year-old man from Great Neck, was in violation of a court order to stay away from his ex-girlfriend who was in the vehicle with him. He was arrested for felony criminal contempt due to a prior conviction for the same offense. He was also charged with multiple traffic offenses.
  • A Franklin Avenue business reports a man used a fraudulent check to purchase property valued at $16,000 on Nov. 6.
  • A vehicle, declared a scofflaw by the Garden City Court for unpaid parking tickets, was impounded in Parking Field 9E on Nov. 6.
  • A flag was reported missing from the lawn of a Somerset Avenue residence on Nov. 7.
  • A vehicle, with its headlights off, was stopped on Franklin Avenue at 1 a.m. on Nov. 7. Upon investigation, the driver, a 23-year-old woman from Hempstead, was arrested for an outstanding Hempstead Village Court traffic warrant.
  • Miscellaneous items were reported stolen from a car parked at an Andover Court home on Nov. 7.
  • Officers investigated the attempted theft of a car stereo from a vehicle parked in a Homestead Avenue driveway on Nov. 8.
  • As a result of a traffic stop investigation on Franklin Avenue and 3rd street on Nov. 8, a 28-year-old man was charged with driving with a suspended license and failing to yield to oncoming traffic when making a left turn.
  • As a result of an ongoing narcotics investigation that occurred on multiple dates, Garden City Detectives arrested a 22-year-old man from Roosevelt on Nov. 9 for three counts of criminal sale of a controlled substance with intent to sell, two counts for criminal sale of a controlled substance, one count for criminal possession of a narcotic drug and one count for unlawful possession of marijuana.
  • A car was stopped on Old Country Road at Rockaway Avenue for excessive speed. Upon investigation, the 42-year-old female driver was charged with driving with a suspended license and excessive speed.
  • On Nov. 9, a Clinton Road business reported someone attempted to purchase more than $200,000 in equipment from one of its vendors by using the company’s financial information. The vendor deemed the order suspicious and cancelled the transaction.
  • A car was stopped on Hilton Avenue for excessive speed. Upon investigation, the 22-year-old male driver was charged with driving with a suspended license and excessive speed.
  • As a result of a traffic stop investigation on 7th Street on Nov. 10, a 34-year-old man was charged with driving with a suspended license, suspended registration and operating a cell phone.
  • A vehicle was stopped on Cathedral Avenue for excessive speed on Nov. 10. Upon investigation, a 22-year-old man was charged with driving with a suspended license and excessive speed.
  • Officers assisted the fire department, which responded to Adelphi University for a smoke condition as a result of burnt food on Nov. 10.
  • Officers investigated a report of a vehicle leaving the scene after striking and damaging a vehicle parked on Monroe Street on Nov. 10.
  • A vehicle was stopped on Cathedral Avenue for excessive speed on Nov 11. Upon investigation, a 23-year-old man was charged with driving with a suspended license and excessive speed.
  • On Nov. 12, a police officer was travelling southbound on Franklin Avenue approaching 4th Street when a northbound vehicle attempted a left turn in front of them, resulting in a crash. Both drivers were transported to Winthrop Hospital for neck and back injuries. The driver of the northbound vehicle, a 47-year-old woman from Brooklyn, was charged with driving with a suspended license, suspended registration, uninsured operation and failure to yield to oncoming traffic.
