Drunk Ambulette Driver Involved In Multiple Crashes: Police
BREAKING: He was transporting a patient at the time, who received minor injuries, police say.

A Brooklyn man was arrested Monday morning after police say he caused multiple crashes while driving a patient in an ambulette while drunk.
According to police, Pedro Aponte, 45, of Nostram Avenue, was driving a Life Care ambulette Monday morning and transporting a dialysis patient from his home in Queens to a treatment center in Nassau County.
While driving, police say that Aponte was involved in multiple crashes. Officers first received a call for an ambulette striking a utility pole and leaving the scene on East Greewich Avenue near Nassau Raod in Roosevelt. While they were investigating, another call came in for an ambulette that struck another utility pole in front of 250 East Greenwich Ave.

Officers responded to the scene and found a heavily damaged ambulette, a fractured utility pole, a damaged parked car and Aponte lying on the ground next to the ambulette. After an investigation, police say they found Aponte was intoxicated and placed him under arrest. He was taken to a hospital for evaluation regarding the possibility of additional drug usage and for his complaints of chest pain.
The patient Aponte was transporting, a 77-year-old man, suffered minor injuries to his ribs during the crashes.

Aponte is charged with two counts of fourth-degree criminal mischief, second-degree reckless endangerment, driving while intoxicated, driving while ability impaired (combination alcohol/drugs), driving while ability impaired (drugs) and two counts of leaving the scene of an accident. He will be arraigned when practical.
