Duo Stole From Multiple College Offices: Garden City Police

Here are all of the incidents that the Garden City Police Department reported for the week ending March 20.
- As a result of a traffic investigation on 5th Street on March 12, officers charged a 28-year-old man from Queens for aggravated unlicensed operation (suspended license), revoked registration, tinted windows and uninsured operation.
- Officers responded to Lord & Taylor on March 13 for a report of a man fleeing the scene in a southbound bus after stealing assorted merchandise from the store. Officers stopped the bus and arrested the 56-year-old man from Hempstead for larceny.
- Assorted items were stolen from the trunk of a car in Parking Field 7N.
- As a result of a traffic stop investigation on Meadow Street on March 14, officers arrested a passenger in the vehicle, a 27-year-old man from Hempstead, for a Nassau County Criminal Contempt warrant. In addition, the driver, a 33-year-old man from Brentwood, was charged with aggravated unlicensed operation (three license suspensions) and passing a red traffic light signal.
- Officers arrested a 29-year-old woman from Garden City for punching and kicking a family member, causing facial injuries. The woman was also found to be in possession of narcotics. She was charged with assault, criminal possession of a controlled substance and larceny.
- Three pairs of sunglasses were reported stolen from a 7th Street store on March 14.
- Upon investigation on March 15, Garden City Detectives arrested a 37-year-old man and a 38-year-old man, both from New York City, for credit card thefts from two closed offices on the Adelphi University campus on Feb. 28. Further investigation revealed the two were responsible for similar recent thefts at Molloy College, Hofstra University, St. John's University and Stony Brook University. In addition, the 38-year-old man was charged for a similar incident that occurred at Stratford School in November. The two were charged with numerous counts of burglary as well as possession of stolen property. The investigation is ongoing regarding similar incidents at additional schools.
- A resident reported on March 16 that there were several unsuccessful attempts to open unauthorized credit cards in his name. Another resident reported an unauthorized credit card account was opened in her name and was used to make three purchases totaling $1,000.
- Officers responded to New Hyde Park Road on March 17 for a report of a vehicle striking and damaging a PSEG pole. The driver, a 24-year-old man from Deer Park, was arrested for DWI and transported to Winthrop Hospital for a neck injury. The pole suffered severe damage, which resulted in lengthy street closures and periodic power outages in the area until it was replaced by PSEG.
- Officers responded to Bluebell Court on March 18 for a report of Nassau County Probation Officers chasing a man who had just fled on foot from his car after committing multiple traffic misdemeanors. Garden City Police officers chased the man through several yards and eventually apprehended him on Prescott Street. The 39-year-old man from Mastic was charged with second-degree aggravated unlicensed operation (prior DWI arrest), third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation (revoked license-persistent violator), circumvent use of a court-ordered interlock device and trespassing.
- A wallet was reported stolen from a car parked at a Stewart Avenue home on March 18.
- Two cars, one parked on Birch Lane and one parked on 11th Street, were reportedly entered during the overnight hours of March 19. There is no reported loss at this time.
- On March 19, an elderly resident received a call from a person stating he was his grandson; the person informed the victim he was arrested and needed the victim to forward him money for bail. The victim realized this was a scam and contacted family members who confirmed the grandson was not arrested.
