Elderly Couple Severely Burned In House Fire: Garden City Police

A car parked at a Hilton Avenue residence was entered on Jan. 2, but nothing was taken.
Unauthorized charges were made against a resident’s credit card at a local service station on Jan. 2.
Police officers and firefighters responded to a Garfield Street home on Jan. 3 for a report of a fire in the bedroom. The elderly female resident suffered severe burn injuries to her head and her husband suffered burns to his hands when he attempted to put out the fire. Both victims were transported to Nassau University Medical Center for their injuries. The fire appears to be accidental at this time.

Officers were advised of a man who had just stolen various meats from Kings and fled the scene on foot on Jan. 3. Officers apprehended him on Franklin Avenue. The robber, a 46-year-old man from Hempstead, was also charged for the theft of various items from the Garden City Walgreens earlier in the day.
Officers assisted Nassau County police officers with the arrest of a 40-year-old man from Brooklyn in the vicinity of Garden City Plaza for a robbery which occurred inside Neiman Marcus at the Roosevelt Field Mall on Jan. 4. The man had stolen some items from the store and displayed sharp blunt metal object to loss prevention officers as they attempted to apprehend him.

An unknown car struck and damaged a parked unoccupied car at Adelphi University and left the scene without stopping on Jan. 4.
Unauthorized credit cards in a resident’s name were opened without permission and used to make purchases totaling $1,750 on Jan. 5.
An unauthorized credit card account in a resident’s name was opened without permission and used to make purchases totaling $750 on Jan. 6.
A traffic stop investigation on Old Country Road on Jan. 7 resulted in the arrest of a 35-year-old man from Merrick for driving with a revoked license, driving without a court ordered interlock device due to a prior DWI and tinted windows.
A truck traveling with its hydraulic arm crane extended, struck the Cherry Valley overpass on Jan. 7. The driver, a 27-year-old man from West Babylon, was charged with driving with two license suspensions, disobeying bridge clearance signs and multiple equipment violations. There were no reported injuries.
Officers and firefighters responded to a Commercial Avenue business for a coffee pot fire on Jan. 7. No structural damage or injuries were reported.
Officers investigated a grand larceny report on Jan. 8 where an employee of a company received an email he believed to be from his supervisor instructing him to purchase $2,500 in gift cards and then forward the code numbers to the email. It was later determined to be a scam.
