GARDEN CITY, NY — Keeping with its longstanding tradition, Garden City High School honored members of the senior class who have demonstrated excellence, character and much more, as they named Senior Award winners for the class of 2020.

Despite not being able to hold the traditional award ceremony this year, the high school administration invited senior class members and their families to drive up to the school on June 4 to pick up their awards, as well as their yearbooks. The event was conducted in a safe, organized manner.

Awards were given in the areas of community service, academics (by department) and athletics. The Garden City PTA and SEPTA also honored students with awards in areas such as commitment and perseverance. Special memorial awards were also given, as well as the traditional educator’s awards, which recognized the 10 highest-ranking seniors (academically), National Merit Scholarship winner James Zheng and class of 2020 valedictorian and salutatorian, Mary Foxen and Katherine Staub, respectively. Staub was also awarded this year’s Administrator’s Association Scholarship.
