Garden City Police Arrest Man Trying To Burglarize Cars

The Garden City Police Department reported the following incidents between March 7 and March 12.

  • A Garden City company reported 12 fraudulent checks, totaling more than $5,000, were written and cashed against their business banking account on March 7.
  • Fraudulent credit card accounts were opened using a resident’s identity and were subsequently used to make multiple purchases totaling $5,400 on March 7.
  • Officers responded to the Stewart Manor train station on March 7 for a traffic condition caused by a broken railroad gate.
  • Officers assisted Garden City firefighters on March 7 who responded to a smoke condition caused by a faulty generator on the roof of a Franklin Avenue building.
  • Officers investigated a report of an unknown vehicle leaving the scene after striking and damaging an unoccupied car parked on Commander Avenue on March 8.
  • Property was reported stolen from a locker at the New York Sports Club on March 9.
  • A traffic stop investigation on Clinton Road on March 10 resulted in the arrest of a 25-year-old man from Mineola for criminal possession of a controlled substance (THC), unsafe lane usage and defective headlamps.
  • Officers assisted firefighters for a power outage caused by a transformer fire on Willow Street on March 10.
  • Two fraudulent credit card accounts were opened using a resident’s identity and were subsequently used to make multiple purchases exceeding $3,400 on March 11.
  • At 3:45 a.m. on March 12, officers responded to a report of a suspicious person on the property of a Garden Street home. Officers located a subject matching the description nearby, and upon investigation, determined he entered a car in the driveway of a Willow Street home in an attempt to steal from it. The subject, a 51-year-old man from West Hempstead, was also found to be in possession of a gravity knife and crack cocaine. He was charged with trespassing, attempted larceny from an auto, felony possession of a dangerous weapon and criminal possession of a controlled substance.
  • A Franklin Avenue business said an $8,000 check placed in the office mail bin was intercepted, altered and cashed by an unknown person on March 12.
  • Contents of a package delivered to a Laurel Street residence were reported missing on March 12.
