Garden City Police Arrested Man For Fatal Hit-And-Run

Officers investigated a criminal mischief report inside the Wyndham Condos on Jan. 17. Writing from a black permanent marker was found on hallway walls on the second and fourth floors.
Officers impounded a vehicle in Parking Field 6E on Jan. 17. The vehicle was determined to be a Garden City Court scofflaw due to unpaid/unanswered parking tickets.
Officers assisted Hempstead Police Department with a serious accident on Franklin Avenue, south of 2nd Street, on Jan. 17. A vehicle traveling north struck a 43-year-old male pedestrian and left the scene. The victim suffered serious injuries and was transported to Winthrop Hospital. Approximately one hour later, a Garden City officer observed the vehicle on Hilton Avenue. Upon further investigation, it was determined to be the vehicle that left the scene of the accident. The driver, a 34-year-old man from Briarwood, was placed under arrest by the officer and charged with leaving the scene of a personal injury accident. The victim died from his injuries on Jan. 18. Additional charges are pending.
Officers investigated a report of an accident between two vehicles on Nassau Boulevard on Jan. 18. Upon arrival, it was determined that one of the vehicles left the scene. Upon investigation, officers arrested a 48-year-old man from Garden City for leaving the scene of an accident.
Officers are investigating a report of an unauthorized withdrawal of $5,000 from a resident’s bank account reported on Jan. 19.
The windshield and a tire to a vehicle parked at a Chestnut Street residence were found damaged on Jan. 19.
Officers investigated a report of a package theft from the front yard of a Garden Street residence on Jan. 19.
Officers investigated a report of a vehicle leaving the scene after striking and damaging a parked vehicle in Parking Field 11 on Jan. 19.
Officers responded to numerous incidents related to extreme cold temperatures accompanied by strong winds on Jan. 21, including residential alarms, tree branches down, a traffic light malfunction on Washington Avenue and a railroad gate malfunction at the Cathedral Avenue crossing.
