Congratulations to Garden City High School business education teachers Reid Sclafani and Erin McKinstry for being named 2011-2012 recipients of the Gold Star Teacher Award.
The teachers were awarded the honor because, last spring, students in one of their business classes achieved a 90 percent pass rate on the online Financial Literacy Certification Test sponsored by the W!SE Financial Literacy Program. This is the third group of students from the high school to qualify for the distinction.
“W!SE established this program in response to the concern over students’ understanding of financial literacy,” Sclafani said. “We have always had students who are more aware of banking, credit card and investing, but this gave us the opportunity to show this.”
McKinstry added, “It’s another way for students to gain recognition and be successful after graduation."
