For 2018, Imani Hinson, a student from Columbia, Maryland, received the Metzger-D’Innocenzo Endowed Scholarship for her outstanding contributions to Hofstra University and the surrounding community. The achievement award is presented to a student who serves as a fellow in the Center for Civic Engagement.

Hinson is a junior majoring in social studies education. A public relations associate for Hofstra’s Student Government Association, she has been with the Center for Civic Engagement for two years. A skilled communicator, Hinson has been a dedicated tutor and mentor to local grade and high school students in Hempstead and has organized several events on campus about current social issues.

The center provided a second endowed scholarship award to Caroline Bows of Quincy, Massachusetts. Majoring in global studies and minoring in sustainability studies, Bows has managed the center’s social media accounts, planned engaging events and has served as the liaison for the center with sustainability and peace organizations.
