James Metzger Featured In "Social Life Magazine"
Garden City executive's game plan resonates on Long Island and in New York City.

James C. Metzger, founder and CEO of The Whitmore Group and a prominent student-athlete at Hofstra University and Half Hollow Hills East High School, is featured on the cover of the September 2018 issue of Social Life Magazine, the premier luxury publication for the Hamptons.
The publication is focusing its “eyes” on this prominent business executive and philanthropist for the second time within a few years. Metzger was featured on the cover exactly four years earlier (September 2014 issue), indicating that his business philosophy and his commitment to give back to the Long Island and greater New York City communities continue to resonate with clients, schools, student-athletes and their parents, and many others. The Whitmore Group is a leading insurance brokerage and financial services firm headquartered in Garden City. Metzger founded the company during 1989.
Titled “The Big Assist,” the article in the current issue explores Metzger's growing philanthropic contributions to sports and education programs and a multitude of community and charitable organizations. Since the 2014 article in Social Life Magazine, Metzger has increased his civic support to include the James C. Metzger Stadium, a 1,000-seat sports complex at St. Anthony’s High School in South Huntington, and as primary sponsor of the annual high school awards presented by the New York City Chapter of the National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame.

High School, College, Business Success
Metzger was a lacrosse, football and basketball standout at Half Hollow Hills East High School in Dix Hills during the late 1970s. He earned national honors as a lacrosse player at Hofstra during the 1980s. He has been elected to the Suffolk County Sports Hall of Fame and the Hofstra Athletics Hall of Fame.
In the article, Metzger mentions that his business philosophy derives from his sports connections. He frequently states that “everything I ever needed to know about business I learned on the sports field." Metzger also stated in the article that “the first 10 years of my career I put on a business suit and shoes each day the same way that I had put on my uniform and cleats. I had been wearing uniforms as an athlete my whole life, so I simply saw my suit as just another uniform.”
Metzger’s business model is based on his personal formula for success to be community-minded and to share a percentage of the profits. He repeatedly states that assisting communities, helping others and building his company are a win-win-win.
