Man Pretending to Work For Mortgage Lender Steals $10,000 From Woman: Cops

The man lied to a woman interested in buying a home by telling her he worked for a Carle Place-based mortgage lender, police say.

CARLE PLACE, NY - A Roosevelt man was arrested on Thursday for scamming a woman out of $10,000 by pretending to be working for a mortgage lender, according to Nassau Police.

On January 8, Yves Estriplet, 31, lied to a 27-year-old woman who was interested in buying a home, by telling her he worked for “Mortgage Enterprise Ltd.” of Carle Place, police said.

After deceiving the woman about being qualified to obtain a mortgage, Estriplet took $10,000 in cash from her, for which he provided receipts with a heading stating, “Mortgage Enterprise Ltd.," police said.

Those documents were discovered to be forged, police said.

The woman, who became suspicious, called Mortgage Enterprise of Carle Place and learned that Estriplet was never an employee of the company, police said. After unsuccessful attempts to recover her money from him, she contacted police.

An investigation by detectives led to the arrest of Estriplet, who was charged with third degree grand larceny and two counts of third degree possession of a forged instrument, police said.
