Man Tried To Bring Stolen Gun Onto Marine Base: Garden City PD

An unauthorized credit card account, with $8,000 in subsequent charges against it, was opened using a resident’s personal information on Jan. 23.
A vehicle was stopped by an officer for aggressive driving violations on Franklin Avenue and 3rd Street on Jan. 23. Upon investigation, the driver, a 21-year-old man from Uniondale, was charged with driving with three license suspensions, excessive speed and unsafe lane usage.
Officers responded to a two-vehicle accident on Nassau Boulevard at South Avenue on Jan. 23 where one of the vehicles became lodged on the railroad tracks. Train service was stopped until the vehicle was removed. The operators of both vehicles were transported to a local hospital for head injuries.

A laptop computer was reported stolen from an unattended backpack in an Adelphi University cafeteria on Jan. 24.

Garden City detectives arrested a 29-year-old man on Jan. 25 for leaving the scene of an accident that occurred on Jan. 14 on the Adelphi University campus.
A tool kit was reported stolen from a vehicle parked at a Kilburn Road residence on Jan. 26.
Officers, firefighters and ambulance personnel responded to the vicinity of Hampton Road for a power outage on Jan. 26 that caused a small fire in one house and burning smells, damaged appliances and smoke conditions in other houses.

Officers responded to the Garden City Marine Base on Jan. 28 where a USMC Sergeant, conducting a routine security check, discovered a loaded firearm in a visitor’s backpack. Upon investigation by the officers, it was determined that the firearm was reported stolen in Ohio in October 2018. The visitor, a 21-year-old man from Queens, was placed under arrest and charged with criminal possession of a loaded firearm, possession of stolen property and unlawful possession of a large capacity ammo feeding device. The investigation is ongoing.
A 7th Street salon reported a man attempted to pay for services with expired credit cards and then left the scene without paying on Jan. 29.
A Commercial Avenue business reported receiving several fraudulent checks totaling $26,000 from a company who rented their construction equipment on Jan. 29.
A vehicle parked in Parking Field 12 was found damaged by unknown means on Jan. 29.
