Man Left 2-Year-Old Son In Hot Car At Roosevelt Field: Cops

Police say he left his son in the car while he went to work his shift as a security guard at Macy's.

A Roosevelt man was arrested on Sunday after police say he left his 2-year-old son in a locked car while he was working.

According to police, a call came in for a child locked in a car in the parking lot near Macy's at the Roosevelt Field Mall, located at 630 Old Country Road. An officer arrived at the scene and found a 2-year-old boy strapped into a car seat in the back seat. The officer opened the car through an open window and took the boy, who was hot to the touch, out of the car.

The officer called for an ambulance. While waiting, he put the boy in his cruiser with the air conditioner on. The boy was taken to a nearby hospital where he was treated and released to Child Protective Services.

About an hour and a half later, police say the boy's father, Kaliym Rodriguez, 26, of Enness Street, Roosevelt, came back to the car after working his security guard shift at Macy's. He was placed under arrest by officers who were waiting.

Rodriguez is charged with second-degree reckless endangerment and endangering the welfare of a child. He is scheduled to be arraigned in First District Court in Hempstead on Monday.
