Nassau Police Charge Man With Murder For Daytime Stabbing

Police say Keith Pooler got into an argument with Andre Garry and stabbed him to death on the street.

HEMPSTEAD, NY — Nassau County police arrested a man on Saturday whom they say is responsible for the murder of Andre Garry in Hempstead in late June.

According to police, 49-year-old Garry, of West Hempstead, was walking on Fulton Avenue near the coroner of Terrace Avenue around 9 p.m. on June 28 when he got into an argument with a man police have identified as Keith W. Pooler, 54, of Hewlett. Their fight escalated, and police say Pooler stabbed Garry and then fled.

Garry was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead from his wounds.

Pooler was arrested by Nassau County police on July 11 and was charged with second-degree murder. He was arraigned in First District Court in Hempstead on July 12 and remanded into custody.
